Most people treat problems like roadblocks—something to avoid, minimize, or stress over. But what if the problem isn’t the problem? What if the way we think about the problem is the real limitation?
In my latest training, we dive into a mindset shift I call “Flooding Your Problems with Ideas.” It’s a powerful strategy used by the world’s top innovators and high performers to dissolve obstacles—not by brute force, but through creative abundance.
The Scarcity Trap vs. the Flooding Mindset
Scarcity creates stress. It narrows our perspective, limits options, and leads to reactive decisions. On the flip side, abundance creates strategy. When you flood a challenge with creativity, questions, and energy, you overwhelm it with possibility.
Where most people ask, “How do I fix this?”, high performers ask, “How many different ways can I solve this?”
That’s the shift.
Enter: The I.D.E.A. Framework
Flooding isn’t a free-for-all—it’s a focused process. Here’s the structure I teach:
I – Identify the Real Problem
Ask: What’s the problem behind the problem? Surface-level symptoms usually hide a deeper root issue.
D – Detach Emotionally
Emotion clouds clarity. Step back and ask: What would I advise someone else to do here?
E – Expand the Possibilities
Now flood it. Set a timer and brainstorm 25+ ideas—good, bad, bold, or weird. No judgment, just flow.
A – Apply & Act
Choose 1–3 of your best ideas and test them. Flooding without flow into action is just noise.
Why It Works
Flooding a problem disarms fear. It invites collaboration. It taps into our most creative selves. And most importantly, it replaces paralysis with momentum.
Need proof?
Netflix flooded the dying DVD business with the streaming revolution.
Dyson built 5,000+ prototypes before flooding the market with a breakthrough.
Disney flooded countless rejections with imagination—and built an empire.
Your Turn: Become the Floodgate
This week, don’t shrink from your biggest challenge—flood it. Use the I.D.E.A. framework on a real problem. Better yet, do a 15-minute Flood session with your team. You’ll be amazed what happens when you stop absorbing pressure and start releasing ideas.
Because here’s the truth: You’re never out of options. You’re just one flood away from your next breakthrough.
